My Challenge is to...

Run 10 sub-50 10km in 10 days.

EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2025

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

My current 10km PB is 48:59, so I would have to run at my fastest every day. It pushes me out of my comfort zone, just like Nedd’s journey inspires us all to do. I'm stepping up to this challenge to not only grow personally but also to raise awareness and support for We Are Mobilise, helping people in Australia experiencing homelessness.

So here we are…

Saturday 12th Jul
18 months ago I started running. In the first 9 months of my running career I had completed my first half marathon in 1:53:40, and reduced my 10km pace from a 5:54/km to a 4:54/km.

At the beginning of 2025 I decided to sign up for my first interstate 10km race at the Gold Coast Marathon weekend, with the aim to beat my 48:59 PB with a sub-48 time. Well, I didn’t do it. After 25 weeks of training I ran a 49:42 at GC and was a bit bummed to be honest.

I took a couple days off any sort of training to think about what I would do next. For the remainder of 2025 I had not yet signed up for any races, but I also wasn’t sure I wanted to spend another 10-12 weeks training for another 10km run. Did I want to skip the marathon and go straight to an ultra just for fun?

Then the challenge popped up in my insta feed, and I figured I could maybe combine both ideas. I didn’t want to commit to just running 10km everyday, because I felt like that would only challenge me slightly. So instead, I decided to really ramp it up and run all 10 days at my race pace. This gives me a chance to see if I can hit a new PB, and also really push my (36 year old, mother of two!) body to the limits. My physio just rolled his eyes, knowing how much he has had to hold my body together over the past year.

So here’s the plan: I’m heading into a 16(ish) week training block as if I’m training for a 50km ultra. It’s all about getting kms into the legs so I can back up 10km each day for 10 days, but I also need to keep my speed up so there is a speed session thrown in each week too. 5 runs a week, plus strength. Unsure how I’m going to manage it, but I’ve committed to it so I’m just going to have to!

I’d love for anyone considering a similar challenge to get in touch - I’m over on instagram @kyj3n.

Wish me luck!
