Team Description
For Ned’s Uncomfortable Challenge, The Foot Collective team is going without shoes, 24/7.
At first glance, it might seem simple — but there’s a deep stigma attached to being barefoot in public. People are quick to form opinions about your cleanliness, your choices, even your worth, based on something as small as footwear.
We’re using this discomfort to start a bigger conversation about homelessness and displacement. Too often, people without stable housing are judged and devalued because of their appearance or possessions. By stepping into this space of discomfort together, we want to challenge those perceptions and remind everyone that a person’s worth is never defined by what they wear, but by who they are.
We'd like to recognise our own privilege in that our team has the option to be able to do this. To do it safely and to go home to places of our own, wash our feet and have a job that affords us the opportunity to do this.
We would encourage others to take a stand, kick your shoes off and try to go barefoot as often as you can throughout the challenge even if you can't do the whole time with us.
