My Challenge is to Cycle 20 kilometres EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS IN 2024

bg my challenge

My challenge is uncomfortable for me because...

It pushes me out of my comfort zone, just like Nedd’s journey inspires us all to do. I'm stepping up to this challenge to not only grow personally but also to raise awareness and support for We Are Mobilise, helping people in Australia experiencing homelessness.

My Updates

200km and x10 5am cold showers completed 👌

Tuesday 29th Oct
I have no words for how proud I am of myself after completing ten days of 5 a.m. cold showers, followed by 20km bike rides. This challenge was all about stepping outside my comfort zone and committing to doing what I said I would do.

Nedd really demonstrated what it takes mentally to overcome both physical and mental challenges, showing the power of persistence in pursuing your goals. This journey provided me with encouragement and reinforced that achieving my goals is possible. During this period, I not only launched my own online business and facilitated the programs I created, but I also continued working part-time as a Youth Outreach Worker. On the tenth day of Nedd's run, I drove to Sydney, completed, and became certified in Mastering Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, and Timeline Therapy, passing my assessment with higher marks than I expected.

It was not easy however when you become clear on the goal of doing what you say you going to do, and show up and "give it a crack" you would be amazed in what's truly possible. Thank you for this opportunity to be a part of getting uncomfortable for the power of growth and awareness 🙏

Day 1 Blog

Monday 21st Oct
Day one complete.

Wow, it's finally day one, and we’ve started off strong! I woke up at 4:45 a.m. and went for a cold shower, which, honestly, was terrifying at first. The anticipation of feeling uncomfortable so early in the day filled my mind with doubt (f@#k). But I turned the tap on, and the ice-cold water made my body shiver. My nervous system wanted to panic with short breaths, and I started to tremble.

What helped was taking deep breaths and reminding myself that this discomfort would pass. Visualising my body warming up with each breath allowed me to endure the full three minutes under the water. It was the most uncomfortable I've felt in a while, but I’m committed to continuing because I know it will help me persevere. And its about testing your inner strength.

I’m so proud of myself for turning that tap on amongst the flood of thoughts swirling in my head. I fully immersed myself under the cold water for those three minutes, and I made it through. Day one is down, and I have nine more to go. As Nedd Brockmann said about the blue track, "fuck this track, but still we fight."

Here's to perseverance!

Did a 20km bike ride at the gym too!

1 day to go!!!

Saturday 19th Oct
This week has been transformative. Besides training for the uncomfortable challenge, I've been exploring other areas of education, delving into NLP practitioner techniques since Wednesday. I've gained insights into how our values and belief systems can prevent us from living fulfilled lives. It takes curiosity and a willingness to experiment with discomfort, modeling new behaviors, and letting go of unwanted habits to take steps toward the life we desire. Reflecting on my current studies, I'm more aware of the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. It's crucial to do something uncomfortable with the positive intention to grow, as it emphasizes the value of pushing past boundaries that no longer serve us. With 10 days of 5 am cold showers for three minutes and 20 km bike rides daily, I'm physically testing my comfort zone while continuing the master's practitioner program. I can already see how this will positively impact my life. I'm eager to embrace this challenge and look forward to sharing my progress tomorrow. Let's Go 🚀 🩵Lilly

What a weekend!!!! Let's Go Nedd 🔥

Monday 14th Oct
Hey everyone, it’s Lilly here! Since my last update, I've had a whirlwind few days. I launched my first online business program over the course of three days. Alongside that, I've been part of an amazing community on TikTok, cheering for Nedd in the chat. Dare I say it: I’m a WAML OG! 😅 Every day, we've shown up to support Nedd, spreading positive banter. People from all walks of life have united on this mission to support him across various platforms. I even created shirts for some of the OGs! Right after completing the launch of my business, I rushed to see what could've been Nedd's last day. This man has taught me the importance of showing up for yourself. Despite being overwhelmed by emotions, he pushes through to get the job done. We're often limited by our beliefs, but Nedd's team and the nation have rallied behind him in unbelievable ways. We feel for you, Nedd. You're teaching us all to fight not just for ourselves but for those less fortunate, like homeless Australians facing hardships. Nedd Fights On!!! He's been showing us what’s possible when you believe in something deeply. Seeing Nedd meet one of his heroes tonight was moving. On a day when he seemed to really struggle, the encounter brought him hope and strength. We all have heroes, and watching one show up for Nedd was profoundly inspiring. Witnessing the transformation on Day 11, when Nedd’s mental hurdles and pain dissolved as he ran alongside his hero, was utterly speechless. It's moments like these that remind us of the incredible power of support and belief. Got to Meet Noah The CEO of We Are Mobilise and Archie Shepmates. Couldn't forget Dee aka WAML Mom, the WAML'S that where there on Day 10 Thanks for sticking with me on this journey, and let's keep cheering Nedd on! What makes you Uncomfortable? Join the Journey! My gym put me up on their socials and work have put me up too!

Thursday 10th Oct
Only 10 days to go! Training is right on track to complete those 20km bike rides, along with 5am cold showers, for 10 days straight starting October 20th.

Why did I choose bike rides? Those who know me know I prefer lifting weights, and I was making great progress. Back in early August, I hit a PB on the leg press at 280kg, managed a 90kg overhead squat, did a 107kg deadlift, and 120kg hip thrusts. Unfortunately, I tore my hamstring, landing me in the hospital and on crutches for 5 days. This led to rehabilitation, physio, and a new gym plan. Now, I’m on the bike—something I could hardly think of anything worse than—especially on a gym bike with the brakes on.

Why don’t I ride in public, you ask? At 16, I was hit by a car, and the week after, I rode into a parked car. So since then, public biking isn't my thing. My chosen challenge is the gym bike because it offers lower impact on my hamstring, provided I stick to training. I got cleared for weights two weeks ago and train five days a week. I have a physio appointment next week to see how my body feels.

Seeing what Nedd Brockman is going through for his challenge, I've learned that the mind is powerful. When I struggle, I ask, #WWND (What Would Nedd Do?). He shows up no matter what. Those 5am showers in Canberra are freezing, but that’s the point; I picked 5am to ensure the water's as cold as possible.

So that's my rant for today. I stretched at the gym and rode 19km with the brakes engaged. Tomorrow's a sprint day. Just 10 days to go—yewww! What makes you uncomfortable? 🤔 Tap and donate 🩵 Lilly

Training week 3

Wednesday 2nd Oct
Was cleared to start doing training for the Uncomfortable Challenge from the Physio and have bumped training up to 5 days now... Before I left the physio he did a cheeky acupuncture session which I had never experienced in my life 🤣 but he is happy gor me to give this challenge a good crack.... each week is progressing to the goal of 20km bike rides for 10days. I have also been completing river punges here in Canberra ACT to get accustomed to the cold water  I am preparing to wake me up each morning. I'm loving how much I push myself to get to the gym and the balance or resting and nutrition. That all for now though. Lillz

Shining a Light on Homelessness: Lilly’s Commitment to #neddsuncomfortablechallenge

Homelessness is an issue that hides in plain sight, affecting thousands of lives across Australia, yet it remains under-discussed and frequently misunderstood. Lilly, a passionate advocate for social justice, has recently signed up for the #neddsuncomfortablechallenge, a movement aimed at highlighting the harsh reality of homelessness and spurring actionable change.

What is the #neddsuncomfortablechallenge?

The #neddsuncomfortablechallenge is a national campaign where participants endure a day in uncomfortable circumstances to simulate the daily struggles faced by those experiencing homelessness. This includes spending a night outside, foregoing meals, or navigating daily activities without basic resources. By stepping into the shoes of the less fortunate, participants gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by people living without stable shelter.

Lilly’s Inspiration and Commitment

For Lilly, the decision to join this challenge stems from a deep-seated desire to make a genuine difference. Lilly herself had a brush with housing instability during her younger years, which left an indelible mark on her perspective. By participating in this challenge, she hopes to bring her personal story and broader awareness to the dire situation that many Australians face every day.

Lilly believes that action must accompany awareness. Through her participation, she aims to generate conversations on social media, bring the plight of the homeless to the forefront of public consciousness, and encourage others to take tangible steps in supporting homeless individuals and families.

The Impact of Homelessness in Australia

Homelessness in Australia is a critical issue, with more than 116,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The reasons vary from unemployment and financial hardship to mental health issues and domestic violence. By shedding light on these causes, Lilly and other participants aim to foster a more empathetic and proactive society that works towards long-term solutions.

Lilly’s commitment to the #neddsuncomfortablechallenge and will be completing a 5am cold showers and a 20km bike ride for 10days as reminder of the silent struggles faced by many. By embracing discomfort for a day, she and fellow participants aspire to create ripples of change, encouraging the public to engage in meaningful actions that support and uplift those experiencing homelessness. Together, through awareness and action, a future where everyone has a place to call home can be envisioned.
